Lewis Hamilton heads into the crucial final qualifying hour for the 2021 F1 season with a clear one-lap advantage in his Mercedes after beating title rival Max Verstappen in third practice at the Abu Dhabi GP.

Hamilton followed up with his fastest time on Friday afternoon with the fastest time on Saturday morning, with his best lap being 1:23.274 about two dozen than Verstappen could manage.

Both competitors made small mistakes on fast laps of soft tires during the course, as the reconfigured Yas Marina circuit proved difficult for all drivers to keep the rear tires in the correct temperature range throughout the course.

Meanwhile, Hamilton has been involved in an accidental fouling incident with Haas player Nikita Mazepin for the final second training session in a row. The Russian was on a fast lap and had to run off the track to avoid the Mercedes as Hamilton exited the pit lane.

Valtteri Bottas was third fastest in the second Mercedes, while Sergio Perez was fourth in the other Red Bull.

Meanwhile, Lando Norris showed encouraging pace for McLaren to finish fifth, ahead of Alvatore duo Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly.
