Businessman Matt Harper of Gloucester died in Bali this week, and police have now arrested his girlfriend, Amy Pakpahan, on suspicion of murder, hours after she told police he killed himself.

Amy Pakpaha arrested on suspicion of murdering Matt Harper

Reports said a British man was killed by his girlfriend in Bali while on video call with his family in the UK.

Matt Harper is suspected of having been stabbed by Amy Pakpahan despite the woman telling police that her boyfriend killed himself.

The 48-year-old, from Gloucester, was allegedly chatting online with his daughter and ex-wife.

Friends said the Indonesian-born Pakpahan had been in a relationship with the hotel boss since last July.

She is said to have shown police a video of him dying on the floor of the house.

His girlfriend told the police that he locked the doors of their house and committed suicide

She said she filmed the footage, claiming the man closed the doors and intentionally hurt himself.

The woman’s voice can be heard saying, “I don’t know what happened. I don’t know, I don’t know.”

But the Bali police investigating the death were not convinced and soon arrested her on suspicion of murder.

Hours ago, she uploaded a strange video on social media saying that she needed time to come to terms with what had happened.

The businessman died in Bali this week, where he had been living for a few years

She filmed herself thanking friends and family and said to the camera, “I’m sad of course. And if you guys haven’t heard from me, it’s not because I don’t want to answer, I need time to process things.”

“Please don’t believe anything until a statement comes from the police department.”

Man’s friends describe Pakpahan as a ‘psychic’ friend

A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are in contact with the Indonesian police regarding the death of a British man in Bali, and are supporting the family at this difficult time.”

The man’s ex-girlfriend, Aline Evachon, called him “a gentleman – a kind and beautiful man.”

She said, “He texted me a few days before he died, saying he hated Amy for ruining his life – and was sorry he left me.

“He was the best father to his two daughters and daughter, loved by many friends in the UK and Bali. May he rest in peace.”
