The fantastic side Chelsea were playing at the start of the Premier League season look less solid at the start of 2022.

While the Blues are still in contention for the usual four trophies – they also have the Club World Cup to compete in February – a number of injuries and Covid-19 cases have left coach Thomas Tuchel short in some key areas.

With that in mind, it looks increasingly likely that the blues will fall back in the January window for some consolidation. A number of players are still linked with the possible departure as well.

Chelsea hesitant about my religion

According to Alex Kroc of TalkSport, Chelsea are still hesitant over whether to meet Everton’s £30m valuation of Lucas Digne.

The left-back is preparing to leave Goodison Park after coach Rafael Benitez confirmed his desire to move. The Blues have been linked with the France international, although West Ham United and Aston Villa are said to be in the mix.

Newcastle United have also reportedly made a bid for Everton, but Deeney is said to have doubts about a move to St James’ Park.

Chelsea are currently short on the left, with Ben Chilwell set to miss the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Atlético appointed Azpilicueta

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness), Atletico Madrid are considering a move to Cesar Azpilicueta.

Spain champions Kieran Trippier sold to Newcastle United this week, leaving them with a loophole to fill in the right side of their defence.

Azpilicueta is said to have been discussed as a possible alternative, with the defender’s contract at Chelsea due to expire at the end of the season.

Atletico appear to want to secure the 32-year-old’s transfer in January, although in a recent interview with Chelsea’s website, the Blues legend indicated he would not make a decision on his future until the end of the season.

Destination option for Chelsea

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness), Barcelona are considering allowing Chelsea target Sergino Dest to leave the club in January.

The USA international is “no longer a key player” under Xavi Hernandez, although the full-back is not looking to move away from the Camp Nou.

Dest has played on both the right and left sides of Barcelona’s defense and will be a versatile player for the Blues given the injuries he has sustained at both full-back positions.

However, it is said that they will need to make an “expensive bid” forward if they are to keep Dest out of La Liga this month.
