House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) said days after the riots in the US Capitol, that then US President Donald Trump admitted to him that he bears some responsibility for the violence that spread among his supporters on January 6 last year.
“I say he has the responsibility. He personally told me he has some responsibility. McCarthy said in a Jan. 12 interview with Bakersfield, Calif., KERN radio station that CNN’s “K-File” was discovered and posted on Friday, I think a lot of people do that.

McCarthy reportedly made a similar claim about Trump taking responsibility for the riots in a January 11 call with Republican lawmakers, according to Reuters.
“I asked him in person today if he took responsibility for what happened, and if he felt bad about what happened. He told me he had some responsibility for what happened,” he reportedly said, “although he has since claimed he does not remember saying it.”
The emergence of the KERN interviewer’s voice is notable, given that Trump never publicly acknowledged his role in instigating the storming of the Capitol (for which he was subsequently impeached) and McCarthy reasserted himself as a key Trump ally and refused to cooperate with the House Select Committee’s investigation into the riots.
