EU Court Says Italy Fine To Issue Multiple Offshore Oil Permits

By Clark Mindoc (January 14, 2022, 4:50pm EST) – The EU’s highest court says it is a good idea for Italy to give multiple licenses to a single company to explore offshore drilling prospects, dealing a blow to southern Italy. That fought those approvals for years.

The European Court of Justice said Thursday that the Italian government did not tamper with the system when developer Global Petroleum LP granted multiple permits to explore areas offshore Puglia for oil and gas development, despite allegations that the permits circumvented area restrictions imposed under Italian law and European Union directives.
