Prince Andrew is currently facing serious allegations in a civil case in the United States, after a judge ruled on January 12 that the trial would continue.

The Duke of York is against allegations of sexual abuse made by Virginia Joffrey, but he strongly denies the allegations.

Jeffrey alleges that she was sexually assaulted in 2001 by Jeffrey Epstein’s friend Prince Andrew on three separate occasions.

Known then as Virginia Roberts, she was 17 years old at the time.

He is now looking to sell his Swiss ski chalet, worth £17m, to pay his escalating legal fees, and have also been stripped of his military titles by the Queen. This means that he can no longer be referred to as “His Royal Highness”.

So what events led to the civil case concerning Prince Andrew and Virginia Joffrey?

1986 – Marriage to Sarah Ferguson

Born in 1960, he became the third child of the Queen and Prince Philip, as well as the first person born to a British monarch since Princess Beatrice was born to Queen Victoria.

He then trained as a Navy pilot from 1979 and served in the Falklands War three years later.

Thousands lined the street when he married Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey. The happy couple became the Duke and Duchess of York on the same day.

1996 – Divorce

The two divorced in 1996 after splitting four years earlier, but they remain close to this day.

1999 – Prince Andrew meets Jeffrey Epstein for the first time

It is believed that Andrew first met Jeffrey Epstein in 1999 through Ghislaine Maxwell, who was at one time Epstein’s girlfriend.

Pictures released during Maxwell’s trial revealed that she and Epstein stayed at Balmoral Castle that same year.

Andrew later said he saw Epstein “infrequently,” adding “probably no more than once or twice a year.”

2000 – Prince Andrew’s 40th birthday

In 2000, Maxwell and Epstein attended a party at Windsor Castle to celebrate Andrew’s 40th birthday, the 50th birthday of the Royal Princess, the Queen Mother 100, and Princess Margaret’s 70th.

Prince Andrew was then photographed at an event attended by Maxwell and Epstein, at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump later banned Epstein from the property, and The Daily Mail reported that he said, “Yes, I and him had a falling out a long time ago. Reason doesn’t make any difference, frankly, but I haven’t spoken to him. Maybe in 15 years or more.”

I wasn’t a huge fan of Jeffrey Epstein, and I can tell you. “

That same year, Virginia Roberts alleged that Ghislaine Maxwell had approached her to train as a masseuse, before she was trafficked.

2001 – Allegations

The allegations in the upcoming civil case stem from 2001.

Virginia Joffrey alleges that she was sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew in three locations, first at Gislaine Maxwell’s home, then Epstein’s home in Manhattan and in an “orgy” in the Virgin Islands.

Prince Andrew denies these allegations.

2008-2011 – Controversy and the conviction of Jeffrey Epstein

Jeffrey Epstein became convicted of pedophilia after he confessed to minors’ prostitution. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2008 and served 13 months.

Two years later, after the disgraced financier spent time behind bars for his crimes, Prince Andrew was photographed walking with Epstein in Manhattan on December 5, 2010 – an incident that Andrew claimed cut ties with the billionaire.

After the photos were published, Prince Andrew resigned from his position as the UK’s trade envoy in 2011.

The footage, filmed on December 6, 2010, reportedly surfaced years later, showing Andrew inside Epstein’s Manhattan mansion waving a woman goodbye after Epstein left for a chauffeur-driven ride.

2015 – US court allegations

Prince Andrew is named in US court documents filed by Joffrey, alleging that she was forced to have sex with Andrew when he was 17 years old.

The allegations were later expunged from the record.

At the time, Buckingham Palace said: “The Duke of York categorically denies any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts.

“Any allegation to the contrary is false and baseless.”

2019 – Newsnight interview with Epstein’s death and car crash

Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his cell in August 2019 after he was rearrested and charged with sex trafficking. A New York City coroner determined that his death was a suicide.

Prince Andrew gave an interview to the BBC’s Emily Mitlis in November, explaining why he could not follow through on Giuffre’s allegations.

He stated that Joffrey’s descriptions of him perspiring were inaccurate because he could not sweat due to a medical condition, and that on one of the dates listed he was at Pizza Express in Woking.

He stepped back from his royal duties after the car accident interview.

2022 – Civil Case

In January, Andrew failed to file a civil sexual assault lawsuit, filed by Joffrey in New York.

The Queen stripped him of his military titles on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
