Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio has been called out for cryptic anti-Semitism after he criticized “the high-end liberals who control the media” for continued coverage of last year’s historic January 6 rebellion.
Critics erupted after Rubio’s tweet on Friday clearly evoked the anti-Semitic trope that Jews control the media realizing that the insurgency was nothing like “Pearl Harbor or 9/11.”
This may not be the time to antagonize voters. Florida Democratic Representative Val Demings is running this year to oust Rubio.
“High-end liberals = Jews,” tweeted Rachel Vindman, wife of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who testified in Donald Trump’s impeachment, about the powerful Ukraine president trying to launch an investigation into Hunter, the son of Joe Biden.
“Come on, Lil Marco, raise the racing flag high! I hear your people care about that these days,” added Rachel Vindman, using the Trump nickname for the Florida senator. “Be loud and proud of your racism,” she sarcastically urged.
Fred Guttenberg, who lost his daughter Jaime, in a 2018 mass shooting at Parkland High School in Florida, echoed Vindman. “Don’t hide behind your anti-Semitism, Marco,” he wrote on Twitter.
“In connection with the events of 9/11, my brother died because of it. The main difference, Guttenberg added, is that the 6th of January was a terrorist attack carried out by Americans at the invitation of people like you.
Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) did not criticize Rubio for anti-Semitism, but he did dismiss his comment about Pearl Harbor. “What happened to you, man?” asked Rubio.
Some critics have questioned why Rubio drastically changed his view to be dismissive of the January 6 uprising when he once described it as “anti-American anarchy”.
