Stephen Colbert loves to juggle with alcohol and even takes a big gulp from a glass of wine from time to time as part of a joke.
Thursday night, he revealed that there’s nothing “supposed” about it…at least not usually.
The seemingly unscripted moment came during his monologue, when the “Late Show” host discussed a new report that found an omicron variant of the coronavirus in the throat.
“throat?” He said. “Die, you bastards!”
Colbert took out a glass and took a big gulp to find disappointment inside:
“what [bleep] This is? This is tea! ‘ said Colbert, then called someone off the camera. ‘There’s a rule, what’s the rule, Mark?’
Mark began to respond.
“Wine gets drunk on this show,” Colbert said.
Now you know. Unless someone tries to trade it for tea again:
Booze led to many memorable moments on “The Late Show,” including this interview with former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (right) about hastily brutalized tequila shots.
“who loves you?” Colbert asked him at some point.
“You are, Stephen,” replied Christie, raising a glass.
Colbert replied, “More of this and I might.”
