BBC News NI provides the latest data on coronavirus and Covid-19 vaccines in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Two additional deaths linked to Covid-19 were reported in Northern Ireland on Friday.

Deaths are measured by recording those who died within 28 days of receiving a positive coronavirus test result.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Northern Ireland since the start of the pandemic is 2,918.

1,806 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Northern Ireland on Thursday, up from 1,819 on Thursday.

This includes confirmed cases from samples taken in the past few days, not necessarily in the last 24 hour reporting period.

As of Friday, the number of confirmed positive cases in the past seven days was 12,153.

There were 317 Covid-19 patients in hospitals across Northern Ireland on Friday, up from 338 on Thursday.

There were 40 patients with Covid-19 in the hospital’s intensive care units, two more than on Thursday.

Vaccines

As of Friday, 3,182,222 vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered in Northern Ireland.

Of these, 1,383,679 were a first dose, 1,282,373 were a second dose, and 17,863 were a third dose.

Republic of Ireland

The total number of deaths related to Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland since the start of the pandemic has reached 5,788 as of 8 December.

This number, which is under review, is updated weekly and includes “probable and probable” deaths linked to Covid-19.

As of Friday, 4,115 more cases of coronavirus have been reported in the Republic of Ireland.

There are 511 Covid-19 patients in hospitals across the Republic of Ireland, up from 530 on Thursday.

There are 110 patients in intensive care units, down from five as of Thursday.

Vaccines

As of Thursday, 7,443,096 vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered in the Republic of Ireland.

A total of 3,634,840 subjects received their first dose and 3,571,642 received their second dose.

A total of 1,114,334 booster shots had been given as of Thursday.
